GICLEE

The term "giclée" (zhee-clay) is used mostly in the art world to describe a reproduction of an original art piece that is not an offset printing reproduction. Since there is truly only one original created by an artist, there needed to be a way to re-create that image in a manner closest to the original. That is when digital services entered the picture.

To start, the original art is photographed, scanned, and now able to be output onto a variety of papers or canvas by an inkjet printer. Most printmaking terms are Italian or French in origin, and "giclée" is basically a French term meaning "to spray from a nozzle". That term is generally accepted in the art world as a fine art reproduction, simply "Giclée".

For optimum results, we would like to photograph the art, scan it to the appropriate size and output it while the original art is on our premises. This will ensure that we can get the best possible color matching. It is always best to have the original available whenever possible when re-printing since print materials, just like photographic papers, change from batch to batch. All Giclées on canvas are sprayed with a protective UV inhibiting liquid laminate. Other paper reproductions may or may not need laminating. We can also stretch your canvas if you choose, and it will be ready for framing.

Note: If a file is supplied for art that we did not photograph or scan, we have no way to know how accurate the colors will be, and it is understood that we cannot ensure the quality of the final output.
